A Deep WSRT 1.4 GHz Radio Survey of the Spitzer Space Telescope FLSv Region

چکیده
The First Look Survey (FLS) is the first scientific product to emerge from the Spitzer Space Telescope. A small region of this field (the verification strip) has been imaged very deeply, permitting the detection of cosmologically distant sources. We present Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT) observations of this region, encompassing a ∼ 1 sq. deg field, centred on the verification strip (J2000 RA=17:17:00.00, DEC=59:45:00.000). The radio images reach a noise level of ∼ 8.5 μJy beam the deepest WSRT image made to date. We summarise here the first results from the project, and present the final mosaic image, together with a list of detected sources. The effect of source confusion on the position, size and flux density of the faintest sources in the source catalogue are also addressed. The results of a serendipitous search for H I emission in the field are also presented. Using a subset of the data, we clearly detect H I emission associated with four galaxies in the central region of the FLSv. These are identified with nearby, massive galaxies.

Spitzer 24 μ m imaging of Faint Radio Sources in the FLSv : a new radio - loud , Mid - IR / optically obscured population ?
Data from the Spitzer Space Telescope (the First Look Survey-FLS) have recently been made public. We have compared the 24 µm images with very deep WSRT 1.4 GHz observations (Morganti et al. 2004), centred on the FLS verification strip (FLSv). Approximately 75% of the radio sources have corresponding 24 µm identifications. Such a close correspondence is expected, especially at the fainter radio ...
متن کاملLetter to the Editor WSRT observations of the Hubble Deep Field region
We present deep WSRT 1.4 GHz observations of the Hubble Deep Field region. At the 5σ level, the WSRT clearly detects 85 regions of radio emission in a 10′ ×10′ field centred on the HDF. Eight of these regions fall within the HDF itself, four of these are sources that have not previously been detected at 1.4 GHz, although two of these are VLA detections at 8.5 GHz. The two new radio sources dete...

متن کاملDEEP WESTERBORK 1.4 GHz IMAGING OF THE BOOTES FIELD
We present the results from our deep (16 12 hr) Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT) observations of the approximately 7 deg2 Bootes Deep Field, centered at 14h32m05 975, 34 16047>5 (J2000.0). Our survey consists of 42 discrete pointings, with enough overlap to ensure a uniform sensitivity across the entire field, with a limiting sensitivity of 28 lJy (1 rms). The catalog contains 3172 d...
متن کاملOn the Selection of High-z Quasars Using LOFAR Observations
We present a method to identify candidate quasars which combines optical/infrared color selection with radio detections from the Low Frequency ARray (LOFAR) at 150 MHz. We apply this method in a region of 9 square degrees located in the Boötes field, with a wealth of multi-wavelength data. Our LOFAR imaging in the central region reaches a rms noise of ∼ 50μJy with a resolution of 5. This is so ...
